How To Make Skype Calls From A Cell Phone With Free Fring Software

The following is a general guide on how to setup Skype and Fring, so that you can make long distance calls from your mobile phone, using Fring software at Skype’s calling rates (or using a Skype Subscription). Screenshots are from the Android phone version of Fring; versions on other phones are similar but instructions for different phones will have slight differences.

1. If you do not have a Skype account, download the latest version of Skype to your computer. Install and run Skype to setup a free account.
2. Purchase Skype Credit or a Skype Subscription, if you want to use your Skype account to call mobile phones or landline phones.
3. Download Fring in one of several ways. It is available for the iPhone, Android phones, Symbian phones (Nokia, Sony Ericsson), and Windows Mobile phones.
4. Make sure your mobile phone is connected to the internet, either through a Wi-Fi connection or through your phone’s data connection.
5. On your mobile phone, open Fring.

   

6. In Fring, if you do not already have a Fring account, select "New User". Setup your new Fring account and continue.

10. Use the Dialer to make Skype calls to other phones, not listed in your contacts. Make sure to dial the phone number as a Skype call by selecting the option to call as a "SkypeOut" call or by choosing "SKP" when calling.

Use Fring To Make Skype Calls From Your Mobile Phone

The ability to adjust the system volume to your preferences for comfortable listening is very important, especially when trying to avoid unnecessarily high volumes that can damage your hearing. The Motorola E6 (ROKR) cell phone does not come installed with any software to change the maximum volume to a higher setting, or the minimum volume to a lower setting. An application called “VolSet”, written by another Motorola E6 user, can be installed to easily change the limits of the system volume on the E6.

Highlights of the “VolSet” Application

• Change volume limits: Allows the user to adjust the various system volume settings of the Motorola E6, beyond what the phone will allow during normal operation. Up to 19 different volume settings can be adjusted including the headphone volume, speaker volume, handsfree volume, microphone volume, and more.
• Silent camera: The camera click sound can be disabled and re-enabled using “VolSet”.
• Restore settings: Previously adjusted volume settings can be restored the next time you start the “VolSet” application, which is particularly useful after a reboot or restart. Easily Change System Volume By Installing “VolSet”

Warning: Just a reminder that you install programs to your phone at your own risk. TechUserFriendly.com has successfully tested the procedure detailed below, without any problems. This application will not make any permanent changes to your phone settings. If you do not like the settings or the application, you can either manually reset what your changed or else restart your phone. Touch screen sound effects will not work after installing this program.

First make sure that you can install PKG files on your Motorola E6, which requires the MPKG application (more info: Guide to Modding Your E6, section B, “How to Install MPKG”, and section C, “Installing PKG Files”).

1. Download “volset-0.5.pkg.zip” from: http://www.motorolafans.com/forums/a1200-applications/16224-app-volset-increases-volume-a1200-3.html#post131271
2. Rename “volset-0.5.pkg.zip” to “volset-0.5.pkg”; i.e. remove the “.zip” extension from the filename.

4. Rename “volset.sh.txt” to “volset.sh”; i.e. remove the “.txt” extension from the filename.
5. Connect the Motorola E6 cell phone to your computer. Copy “volset-0.5.pkg” to the E6 memory card root directory. Safely remove and disconnect the phone from the computer.
6. Install “volset-0.5.pkg” (section C, “Installing PKG Files”, Guide to Modding Your E6).
7. Reconnect the E6 to your computer. Copy/overwrite volset.sh to “.system/QTDownLoad/volset”. Safely remove and disconnect the phone from the computer.
8. Open “VolSet”, which is listed with the name “Set Volume” in the list of programs. “VolSet” asks if you want to “restore your last setting”. Select “No”.

   

9. The next screen allows you to select the range of settings that you would like to change, or to just view. Select Range “1-7″.

   

10. Do either a or b, depending on if you want to increase or decrease the headphone volume. Please be patient as there is a 3-5 second delay when selecting and changing the settings below. After running “VolSet”, while playing audio, audio will play through speaker rather than the headphones, while the headphones remain plugged into the Motorola E6. When this happens, you will need to unplug the headphones for a few seconds, then plug the headphones back in. If the problem continues, then unplug headphones for a few seconds longer and try again.

    a) If the headphone volume is too loud for you on even the lowest volume setting, then select “Low” for “7) 3mm5 nomic st”. For a headset with a mic, select “Low” for “2) headset stero”. Select “Update Sound”. Select “Exit”.

    

    b) If the headphone volume is not loud enough for you on even the highest volume setting, then select a higher level for “7) 3mm5 nomic st”. For a headset with a mic, select a higher level for “2) headset stero”. Select “Update Sound”. Select “Exit”.It is recommended to only increase these levels by 1 level at a time (i.e. from “Norm” to “+1″), then test to see if the volume meets your preference. If the volume is still not loud enough, then repeat this step. When testing the new settings, it’s highly recommended to start by playing the audio file at the lowest volume first, then increase the volume to see if it is loud enough. This is to avoid hearing damage caused by potentially setting the volume level higher than intended.
