The Dropbox Blog has put up an official guide to get more free space for your Dropbox account. The basic ways to get extra space are listed here.
Ways To Get Bonus Space For Your Dropbox Account
These are the different ways described by the official Dropbox guide to getting more space in your Dropbox account:
- Complete the tasks on the “Get Started” page on the Dropbox website to get an extra 250 MB for free. You’ll need to log in first.
- Invite your friends to get Dropbox, and when they sign up, you will both get an extra 250 MB for free. If you don’t have a Dropbox account yet, then you can sign up through this link to get an extra 500 MB for your new account.
- If you are a student (with a .edu email address), then you can get 500 MB for each friend you invite to sign up for a new Dropbox account. First, you will need to verify that you are a student here.
- Keep up with Dropbox on Twitter and on Facebook to hear about the latest bonus space offers.
Following this basic guide can give you at least an extra 500 MB more than the standard free Dropbox account, for a 2.5 GB free account (if you sign up here and complete the Get Started tasks).
Alternatives to Dropbox
If you want more storage space, then SugarSync is alternative which offers 5 GB free storage space if you sign up through this link. SugarSync works very much like Dropbox does, in that it automatically syncs and backs-up you files, and also allows you mobile access through apps. There are also paid plans available offering more storage space (or get a free trial).
For even more free space, you could sign up for both Dropbox and SugarSync, and use them both on the same computer for at least 8 GB of free space total. They will work fine together on the same computer.
