That is, when you try to add a friend to an existing friend list, Facebook will show that the friend has been added, but then Facebook will not save your changes. So if you log out or leave the page and return, then your changes disappear and Facebook does not show that your friend has been added to the friend list.

This can be pretty frustrating and there are many reasons why this may be happening, but whatever the reason, here is a solution or workaround that may fix the problem for some people.

How To Fix Friend Lists So Facebook Saves Changes

The problem is that Facebook doesn’t save your changes when you try to add friends to a friend list (an existing or old list), no matter how many times you try, or which internet browser you use.

The basic solution here is to create a new friend list, add your friends to this new friend list, copy friends from your old list to the new list, then stop using the old friend list.

If you have a large number of friends or friend lists, you may want to test this solution for a small group of friends first, to see if it works for you and/or if you really want to basically redo all of your friend lists and privacy settings.

1. Log in and go to the Facebook home page. On the left side, hover the mouse pointer over “Lists”, then click “More”.

• On the lists page click “Create a List” to create a new list.
• Enter the new lists name (to replace an existing list you’re having problems with), then click “Create List”.
• Check all your privacy settings and make changesso that whatever was allowed/restricted for the old list, is now also allowed/restricted for the new list.
• Add friends to the new list. Also add friends to this new list that are already on your existing friend list (the one you were having problems adding friends to).
• To confirm that Facebook saved your friends to the new friend list, go to your Facebook profile page, then click “Friends” on the left side of the page.
• For the friends you just added to the new friend list, see which lists they now belong to. To do this, click or hover over the box next to each friend.
• You should see that your friends have been added successfully to the new friend list. For more confirmation, you can log out, then log back in, then check if your friends are still on the new friend lists.
• You can confirm the privacy settings of the new friend list by going to your profile page, and using the “View As” feature for any friend on the new list. Check if they can see what they should see, and that they can’t see what they shouldn’t see.
• When you are done copying friends from the old list to the new list, and you are done re-doing your privacy settings, then you can delete the old list. If you have problems deleting the old list, then you can hide it, so you won’t confuse it with the new friend list in the future.

New friends should now be added to your new friend lists without any issues, at least until the next time Facebook makes changes. While not an ideal solution, it does the job and allows you to continue to add, create and edit your friend lists in Facebook.

If you have a Google+ account, then your photos in Google+ are automatically linked with your Picasa Web Albums. So all of your uploaded photos are viewable to you in either your Google+ or your Picasa Web Albums, no matter which site you used to upload them.

So with a Google+ account, your photos can be backed up online at a high quality for backup or printing, up to 2048 x 2048 pixels.

For photos uploaded using Picasa Web Albums, if you also have Google+:

• Picasa Web Albums provides 1 GB of free storage space for photos and videos.

For interacting with others through your photos, if you have Google+:

• All photos and albums can be re-shared by anyone that has access to the album (ie. anyone you have shared with).
• When you tag someone in a photo on either Google+ or Picasa Web Albums, then this will share the related photo album with the tagged person.
• Previously tagged items in Picasa Web Albums remain unchanged.
• You can remove photo or album access for anyone at any time.
• Comments you make to photos in either Google+ or Picasa Web Albums, are displayed in both Google+ and Picasa Web Albums.
• Only Google+ users can comment on your photos in Picasa Web Albums.

Picasa Without Google+: Uploading To Picasa Web Albums

For photos that you upload using Picasa Web Albums, if you do not have a Google+ account:

Problem: Picasa Web Albums Login Incorrect

When signing in to Picasa Web Albums, with Picasa desktop software, you may get a “Login Incorrect” error, as shown below.

Solution: Use Application-Specific Password

One possible reason for this login error, may be that you have turned on 2-Step Verification in your Google account. Picasa software does not use 2-Step Verification, so you will need to set up an application-specific password for use with Picasa.

1. Go to your Google account settings page. Under Account Overview, click to edit “authorizing applications & sites”.

   

2. Create an application-specific password for use in Picasa. Enter any name, such as “Picasa”, then click “generate password”. The name you choose is only for your own reference, to keep track of what passwords you have generated.

   

3. Copy the password and paste it into the Picasa Web Album sign in screen, in the Picasa desktop software. Click “remember me on this computer”, then sign in.

If you log out of Picasa Web Albums within Picasa software, then you may need to re-enter the application-specific password, or else repeat the process to generate an application-specific password if you have forgotten it.

What Is 2-Step Verification For Google Accounts?

With 2-Step Verification setup with your Google account, the first level of security on your Google account is your password, and the second level of security is a verification code. So even if someone finds out your password, they still will not be able to access your Google account without a valid verification code.

How To Sign In With 2-Step Verification For Google Accounts

The verification code is constantly changing, so check for a valid verification code at the same time that you want to log in.

For example, when you sign in to Gmail, you will need to first enter your username and password. You will then be prompted to enter the verification code, and at this time you can check for a current and valid verification code by using:

• an Android device, BlackBerry device, iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad – use the Google Authenticator application to generate the verification code
• a phone (landline or mobile) – receive the verification code by SMS text message or automated voice call

Using the Google Authenticator app, you will see a countdown clock that shows the time left before the displayed verification code expires. Once that code expires, a new one will be displayed in Google Authenticator with a new countdown clock.

After getting the verification code, enter it to get access to your account. If you like, you can also check the option to have your browser remember the verification code for 30 days.

No internet connection is required to use the Google Authenticator app.

Application-Specific Passwords With 2-Step Verification

Some applications require a Google account login, but are not yet able to handle 2-Step Verification. For these apps, you can set application-specific passwords, that only need to be entered once.

You can create application-specific passwords through your Google account settings. When creating an application-specific password, enter any name you like for the application, since the name is only for your own reference. Copy the password into the application right away, as you can only view the application-specific password at the time you create it. You can revoke or cancel these application-specific passwords at any time.

How To Setup 2-Step Verification For Android

The following instructions are for setting up 2-Step Verification for your Google account, for Android. Instructions for iPhone and BlackBerry users are similar. Screenshots are for Android.

1. Go to https://www.google.com/accounts/SmSAuthconfig
   Sign in and click on "Start Setup".

2. Choose how you want to get verification codes: Android, iPhone, BlackBerry, SMS text message or voice call.

   
   Instructions vary depending on your choice. Basically, for smartphone users, you can proceed to download and install the Google Authenticator application. If choosing to use text messages or voice calls, enter your phone number where you want to receive verification codes.

3. Open and configure the Google Authenticator app by scanning the QR code from the setup screen. If you can’t scan the QR code, then you can manually add your account to Google Authenticator by entering your email address and your secret key. Also, choose the time-based type of key. 
    
4. Test the verification code from Google Authenticator by entering it into the setup screen and clicking verify.

5. The configuration of your Android phone should now be confirmed and completed.

   

6. Configure backup options for accessing your Google account by printing or writing the given backup codes, and entering a backup phone number with which to receive backup codes if needed.

7. Create application-specific passwords for applications that are not able to accept verification codes.

   

8. Confirm and turn on 2-Step Verification. You will be signed out of your Google account on all devices and applications. Next time you sign in, 2-Step Verification will be used, and you will need both your password and a valid verification code.

Problems And Issues With 2-Step Verification

If the verification code is rejected, it may have expired, so just check for the verification code again. If you continue to experience problems and you are using the Google Authenticator app, then one common cause may be that your device’s clock may not be accurate. Correct your device’s clock then try the Google Authenticator app again.

If you lose access to your phone (and the Google Authenticator app), you can still access your Google account with backup codes provided during the 2-Step Verification setup. After logging in with a backup verification code, you can then change your account password or 2-Step Verification settings as needed.

A previous article on TechUserFriendly.com dealt with how to change Facebook’s Instant Personalization Pilot Program privacy settings, so that it would be disabled for your account.

But depending on if Facebook has applied these "Improved Privacy Controls" to your Facebook account, those instructions may no longer apply to you, and instead the instructions below may be applicable.

The Facebook Instant Personalization Pilot Program, acts to personalize your visits to other selected partner websites such as MicrosoftDocs.com, Pandora, and Yelp. This will make it so that information is tailored towards you on these external partner websites, based on your "public Facebook information". But it may be difficult for you to know exactly what information in your Facebook profile is public (i.e. your Facebook Friends list).

Check your privacy settings, to get greater control over your online privacy with Facebook. If you do not want this feature activated, then make sure it is disabled in your Facebook Privacy Settings, using the steps shown here.

Does Your Account Have Facebook’s Improved Privacy Controls?

If under Facebook’s Privacy Settings, you have the following control layout as shown in the image below, then these basic instructions apply to you.

How To Turn Off The Facebook Instant Personalization Pilot Program

1. Go to Facebook’s Privacy Settings page, and at the bottom in the "Applications and Websites" section, click on "Edit your settings".

    

2. For "Instant Personalization", click on "Edit Settings".

    

3. On the "Instant Personalization" settings page, make sure the box is unchecked for "Enable instant personalization on partner websites".

    

4. You are now opted out of Facebook’s Instant Personalization Pilot Program.

How To Keep Your Facebook Friends List Private

Here are the steps on how to keep your Facebook Friends list totally private, so that it will not show on your profile page.

1. Go to "Privacy Settings", and click on "Friends, Tags and Connections".

    

2. In "Friends, Tags and Connections", select the drop-down options box for "Friends".

   

3. In the drop-down options box for "Friends", select "Customize".

   

4. In the pop-up window showing the Custom Privacy options for "Friends", under "make this visible to" select "Only Me". Then click on "Save Setting".

    
   (Alternatively, if you would still like some other people to see your Facebook Friends list on your profile page, you can adjust these settings to the appropriate level for you. You can also choose to hide your Facebook Friends list from only certain people, by entering names under "hide this from".)

5. Now, your Facebook Friends list on your profile page will only be visible by you (if you selected "Only Me"). Click on "Preview My Profile" and enter some of your friends’ names to confirm that they can no longer see your Facebook Friends list on your profile.

There are a few basic restrictions to keep in mind when writing either Xombytes or Xomblurbs:

• You can write about whatever topic you like within reason, but you cannot copy another writer’s work. Also be careful about using too many quotes, as this may be seen to be copying and could result in your account being temporarily suspended.
• A Xomblurb cannot link another to another Xombyte. One reason for this, most likely, is to stop lazy users from profiting by quickly writing Xomblurbs that just link to another Xomba.com user’s work in a Xombyte.
