A while ago in Gmail, the action buttons at the top of Gmail were changed to “icons only” by default. If you’re unfamiliar with the icons, then it may be tough to quickly recognize which button is for which function.
Here is how to change these buttons from showing icons only, back to buttons with text labels.

This is what it looks like if you’re Gmail action buttons show icons only:

In Gmail, to change the button labels to text, go to Settings.
In the “General” tab, scroll down to “Button labels”.
Then select “Text”.
Remember to then scroll to the bottom of the page to click “Save Changes”.
At the top of your Gmail inbox, you should now see that the action buttons have text labels.
